When we are above the line, we are leading with all our senses open, we are aware, we are “tuned into” our surroundings, we are aware of our responses and how they will land with another person.
The skills we engage to lead and work above the line are: openness, being curious, working with intention and an understanding of the path necessary to achieve that intention, this is also known as ‘conscious leadership’.
Simple questions can help us move above the line:
- How can I accept what is happening without blaming someone else?
- How can I take ownership?
- How can I be accountable?
- What could I do differently?
- How can I find a win/win?
